If you are in the market for a new range hood, you have probably heard the term “blower” thrown around a few times. But what is a range hood blower?

In this article, you will learn what a blower is, what the different types of blowers are, and which one is best for your home so that you can make a confident decision when choosing a range hood.

A blower is the motor of a range hood. It’s the part of the hood responsible for moving air through and out of your home or recirculating it. Some blowers are inside the hood, while others may be found outside the hood or outside the home.

Before discussing range hood blowers, let’s first understand what range hoods are. Range hoods are appliances placed above the range or cooktop to clean and circulate air. A range hood uses a blower motor to pull air from the region and cycle in fresher air.

They provide a cleaner, safer, and more comfortable environment in your kitchen by removing extra heat, steam, smoke, grease, cooking smells, and fumes. In addition, a range hood may be used to cool down the kitchen and filter smoke or steam.

A range hood blower is essentially the heart of your range hood. It’s the motor that provides the suction required to exhaust the dirty air out of your kitchen. There are a few different types of blowers, and their powers differ greatly. Therefore, choosing a range hood with the right motor configuration and power is essential when considering a range hood.

There are three different types of blowers range hoods used to exhaust air:

A local blower, sometimes referred to as an internal blower, is a blower that is located directly inside your range hood. Because this blower is closer to your filters and your cooking area, it will be able to remove more undesired particles from the air in your kitchen. However, it is located inside the range hood, so it may be a little noisier than a remote or external blower.

An inline blower, sometimes referred to as an inline fan, is a remote blower not located in the range hood itself but in your ductwork, between the range hood and the end of your ducting.

Hoods with inline blower motors are an excellent choice if you expect guests in your kitchen regularly or if you enjoy socializing with friends and family and want a quieter kitchen. They provide less suction power but are much quieter. Even when operating at reduced power, these blowers can still exhaust up to 1300 CFM of air from your kitchen, which is more than enough for all cooking styles.

External blowers refer to a blower that’s located outside of the home. Blowers like these are most typically found on the roof. They are generally more expensive to install than local or inline blowers, but your kitchen will be quieter. Also, you might not hear the hood at all while it’s on.

This will largely be determined by your cooking methods and preferences. Cubic feet per minute, or CFM, determine blower power. You’ll need a high-CFM blower if you cook frequently and prepare greasy, fried, or Asian cuisine. However, you’ll need fewer CFM if you do not cook as often or on low to medium heat settings a lot.

A range hood blower should be powerful enough to remove the cooking odors and particles from your kitchen. The more powerful the blower, the better your system will work. However, it’s important to note that blowers should not be so powerful that they create a noise level in your home that is too loud.

If you want to learn how to calculate the CFM you need for your kitchen, check out our guide on how to determine how much CFM you need.

You will seldom be able to choose which blower comes with your new range hood. However, the maximum amount of CFM, on the other hand, is under your control. So, choosing a powerful blower is choosing a hood with many CFM.

If you want even more tips, check out this video called Remote Blower Vs.
